Happy Thursday! I hope everyone's enjoying their last month of summer!

I know it's been a while since I've posted something up on the blog but my 22nd birthday was just last week along with a lot of my friends' birthdays so it's been an August birthday celebration all week. I wasn't planning anything big to celebrate 22 since anything after 21 and before 25 is considered "black hole" years (or so my friends have described it). But I feel like any birthday is worth celebrating, not because we should have a whole day dedicated to the world catering to our every need but because we all are entitled to a day worth enjoying for ourselves after all the hard work and struggles we had to endure the other 364 days a year. Sometimes it's easy to get lost in the chaos of our busy lives trying to ensure a stable future while maintaining a fulfilled presence. So we all owe it to ourselves to relax amongst loved family and friends and appreciate how far we've come because we all know we haven't had it easy. Looking back, I have so much to be grateful for and this year's birthday made me realize it a great deal. It wasn't about the age I was turning, but about the way I celebrated and embraced it. Therefore, I can't thank everyone enough for making this birthday such a memorable one. Anyways, I didn't exactly mean to dive into a whole tangent about my birthday (after all, it's already over), but I just wanted to share my recent elatedness.

Now back to the outfit...if you've noticed a similar trend on the blog lately, then you can tell I've been pretty basic with my style. And not "basic" as in obscenely obvious behavior or unsophisticated habits as the term has taken on in our generational culture, but basic as in simple and clean. It has been a summer trend in the fashion world and I love how you can still be creatively stylish with the most staple items in your closet. With this outfit, I played with layers and neutral colors to create something different. Midi dress are sometimes hard to style without looking overbearing and short but with a striped cropped tee and denim chambray wrapped around the waist, it can look casual and effortless while still being fashion-forward.

Wishing you all an amazing weekend!

Feeling 22,
Mai Sunshine

Style Tip: A cropped tee will make you appear longer in a loose midi dress while a wrapped around button-down will help accentuate your figure.
